This award is a competitive research grant for AHNA member(s) conducting Holistic Nursing research that demonstrates advancing Holistic Nursing practices. This grant is worth up to $5,000.

Criteria:

To provide funding to AHNA member(s) who are conducting Holistic Nursing research, the following conditions must be met:

1. Applicant must be an AHNA active member for a minimum of one (1) year.

2. Applicant must submit a three to five (3-5) page research proposal in Word format with no “change tracking” and use of plain header with page numbers only.

3. Applicant must submit a Proposal Budget appropriate for AHNA level funding, (i.e. moderate in scope, able to be completed in 1-2 years)

4. Applicant must provide a bio-sketch, checklist and budget forms downloaded, completed and submitted from the AHNA website.

This award is intended to keep Bea's memory alive and allow a student to take part in the many wonderful opportunities at conference to learn and expand their holistic education. Bea Alley was an early leader in Holistic Nursing and an eagerly anticipated presence at every conference. This award is for the full registration fee for conference and is worth minimum of $455. No monetary value can be exchanged for this award. Scholarship includes registration for full conference. Due to the Circle of Light Foundation's donation, five awards will be available in 2022.

Recipients are responsible for their own travel and lodging.

Criteria:

To provide registration for an AHNA student member to attend the AHNA Annual conference in a time of financial need, the following conditions must be met:

1. Applicant must be an active AHNA member for a minimum of six (6) months

2. Applicant must be enrolled and in good standing in an academic nursing program

3. Applicant must show a need for financial assistance in attending the AHNA Annual Conference

4. Applicant must show a demonstrated commitment to Holistic Nursing practice and its philosophical base

5. Applicant must show an ability to demonstrate how the AHNA Annual Conference will benefit their nursing career

This grant award provides financial support to initiate and integrate a self-care program within an institution. The intent is to help institutions promote and encourage diverse models of Holistic Nursing activities focused on self-care; the models are designed to provide nurses an opportunity to practice Holistic Nursing and extend their self-care influence and practices to other nurses and/or patients and families. The grant amount is $3,000.

Criteria:

To provide the initial financial support for the initiation of self-care activities to promote diverse models of Holistic Nursing that will be integrated into the institution.

A. Program must:

1. Strengthen the recognition and support for holistic principles through the implementation of specific ongoing holistic self-care activities

2. Develop opportunities for nurses to move deeper into the Holistic Nursing specialty by extending their influence and practices to other nurses and/or patients and families

3. Develop opportunities for Holistic Nurses to extend their influence by supporting colleagues and others in a holistic self-care activity

4. Look at self-care from a fresh holistic perspective that fits your culture (i.e. labyrinth, meditation room/s, laughter yoga, aromatherapy, self-reflection garden, roaming anti-stress minstrels, etc.)

B. Grant Director must:

1. Be Holistic Nursing certified (HN-BC, HNB-BC, AHN-BC)

2. Be an active AHNA member

3. Be currently employed within the institution where the program will be implemented

4. Agree to present the grant implementation activities summary/outline in a Beginnings magazine article and/or present poster/workshop at the annual AHNA conference

C. One letter of support must be submitted from an Institutional Executive showing intent and support that includes how this self-care activity fits into the institutional mission and philosophy, how this program will be integrated moving forward, and how the activity will be sustained upon completion of the grant.

This award recognizes and rewards an institution's incorporation of Holistic Nursing practices demonstrating the Core Values of Holistic Nursing and outstanding professionalism. The institution selected will have implemented innovative holistic approaches that will offer substantive advantages to patients, staff and the institution itself.

Criteria:

1. Institution must be nominated by an active AHNA member.

2. Institution that has demonstrated excellence and professionalism in Holistic Nursing practices by incorporating the philosophies, competencies and Core Values delineated in the Holistic Nursing: Scopes and Standards 3rd Edition (2019).

3. Institution must use innovative, exemplary, holistic approaches that provide significant advantages to the patients, personnel and institution.

4. A letter of support must be submitted from a member of the Institution’s Executive leadership.

This award was established in 2014, and is intended to recognize, and thank, AHNA member(s) who consistently contribute their experience and time to advance AHNA to its highest potential. The recipient of this award is committed to Holistic Nursing and its philosophy, and more particularly, AHNA’s mission and goals.

Criteria:
To recognize and thank AHNA member(s) who consistently contribute their expertise and time to advance AHNA to its highest potential.

1. Active member in AHNA with current volunteer contributions to AHNA

2. Nomination letter from an AHNA member with documentation of candidate’s service to AHNA

3. Active contributor and service to AHNA via serving in elected positions, committees, task forces and other episodic contributing roles that creates, improves and/or sustains various aspects of our AHNA organization (Revised 11/2015)

4. Contributions have facilitated the sustainability, growth, and success of AHNA (Revised 11/2015)

5. A demonstrated commitment to Holistic Nursing practice and its philosophical base

This award is intended for the AHNA to recognize reporters, editors, other media personnel and citizens, websites, and mobile apps that have effectively delivered Holistic Nursing messages to the public.

Criteria:

1. Target audience for the media piece is the public at large

2. Nurses, their perspectives, and nursing are presented accurately and without stereotyping

3. Nurses are sources for the media piece when appropriate

4. Nurses in the media pieces are identified as nurses

5. The story reports on a topic of Holistic Nursing with depth and accuracy

6. Standards of ethical journalism are followed

7. Consideration will be given to the total audience reached

8. May have triggered additional media coverage or policy change

This award is intended to reward and recognize schools, programs, and departments of nursing that offer a degree in nursing who exhibit an exceptional, substantive and innovative curriculum in holistic nursing education.

These schools have incorporated the philosophy and core values of holism into their entire curriculum/course and encourage the highest standards of Holistic Nursing education.

Criteria:
To provide curriculum models of excellence that encourages the highest standards of Holistic Nursing education and to accord national recognition to those eligible schools and programs of nursing that exhibit an exceptional, substantive and innovative curriculum in Holistic Nursing education.

1. Incorporation of philosophy, competencies and core values delineated in the Holistic Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice 3rd Edition (2019), throughout the entire curriculum and/or into a stand-alone course

2. Innovation of approaches to curriculum design, teaching and evaluation methods

3. Clinical experiences across the care continuum focusing on the holistic nature and needs of people

4. Potential for replication and dissemination to other schools/programs/departments of nursing

5. A fully accredited Nursing Program at the national level: NLNAC or AACN

6. Nomination from an active AHNA member

This award is intended to recognize fresh new nurses who have dedicated themselves to a holistic path and who have applied creative holistic practices. These stars epitomize holism in their personal and professional lives.

Criteria:
To recognize and celebrate novice nurses dedicated to a path of Holistic Nursing who have implemented creative holistic practices and exemplify holism in their personal and professional life. 

1. AHNA active member for a minimum of two (2) years

2. Implementation of creative holistic practices using an action plan that may affect or change some aspect of nursing practices based on the current Holistic Nursing: Scope & Standards of Practice 3rd Edition (2019)

This award is intended for AHNA to recognize an Advocate/Legislator who supports Holistic Nursing in policy formation and/or legislation.

Criteria:
This award is intended for the AHNA to recognize an Advocate/Legislator who supports Holistic Nursing in policy formation and/or legislation.

1. Demonstrates a long-term commitment to holistic living

2. Develops and implements sustained advocacy for Holistic Nursing or other holistic health-related practices at the national level and/or globally

3. Contributed greatly to Holistic Nursing through positions in elected and career government service

4. Is an outstanding leader in their field

The Charlotte McGuire Scholarship Program (CMGSP) was established in 1986 through a gracious gift to the American Holistic Nurses Association. Named in honor of the AHNA founder, Charlotte McGuire, the Charlotte McGuire Scholarship Program is made possible through the generous tax deductible donations of AHNA members, friends and benefactors.  A suitable example is the Circle of Light Foundation's donation of 2,500.

To recognize and celebrate nurses in an undergraduate academic setting dedicated to a practice of Holistic Nursing.

1. Current R.N. Licensure

2. Current active member of AHNA for a minimum of six (6) months

3. Enrolled in an undergraduate academic setting dedicated to a practice of Holistic Nursing

To recognize and celebrate nurses in a graduate academic setting dedicated to a practice of Holistic Nursing.

The Holistic Nurse of the Year (HNY) award is intended to recognize AHNA members with outstanding innovation and/or a change in the field of Holistic Nursing. It highlights nurses who have been working in holistic nursing for several years and have demonstrated a commitment towards the Holistic Nursing’s core values.

Criteria:
To recognize outstanding current innovation and/or change in the field of Holistic Nursing. 

1. AHNA member in good standing and committed active member for a minimum of five (5) years (Revised 11/2015)

2. Nomination by an AHNA Member

3. Documented presence for Holistic Nursing with national activities

4. A sustainable and current innovation and/or change in the field of Holistic Nursing for both healthcare professionals and consumers

5. Evidence of the innovation and/or change currently practiced in the field of Holistic Nursing (i.e. published article, institutionalized program protocol)

6. Evidence of innovative, creative practices, contributions that demonstrate leadership, initiated changes in Holistic Nursing, and influenced a change in provision of healthcare within the past 24 months. (Revised 11/2015)

7. Currently acts as a role model and as a definitive voice for AHNA in both their personal and professional life (Revised 11/2015)

This award is intended to celebrate an AHNA member's outstanding lifetime achievements in the field of holistic nursing.

It is a way of saying 'Thank You' for all of the holistic nursing work accomplished through sustained participation in AHNA and advancing the specialty practice of Holistic Nursing.

Criteria:
To recognize and to say thank you for their outstanding lifetime commitment and achievement in the field of Holistic Nursing.
